Artist bio
Ophelia Gordon, an accomplished pianist, epitomizes the essence of a musical polymath. Her journey began at the prestigious BRIT School, where she specialized in classical guitar, piano and double bass, and continued through her academic pursuits at Durham University and City University London, earning degrees in music. Ophelia’s mastery in classical guitar was paralleled by her role as the principal double bassist in her university orchestra, showcasing her extraordinary versatility and ability to transcend traditional musical boundaries. Performances at this time included iconic venues such as the South Bank, The Royal Albert Hall, St. John’s Smith Square, LSO St. Luke’s, and The Sage Gateshead.
Following her graduation, Ophelia experienced a pivotal shift towards the piano. This transition gave rise to a flourishing career in teaching, performing, and accompanying. Her commitment earned her numerous first prizes and recently secured her the top honour in the ARS Nova International Competition. As well as a solo career, Ophelia is also highly in demand as a collaborative pianist and has been appointed as the resident pianist for the ASPSNY festival at the Manhattan School of Music.
Ophelia unique musical sensibility bridges a variety of genres, reflecting her passion for exploration. Her repertoire, extending from classical to jazz and beyond, involves a fusion of diverse musical influences. Her next endeavour, involving a recording contract with Divine Arts Recordings, focuses on producing an album that highlights the captivating music of Kapustin, blending the classical realm with a dynamic touch of jazz.
With the aim to deepen understanding of the craft and further refine artistic expression, Ophelia is now studying for a masters’ in piano performance at the renowned Trinity Laban Conservatoire, under the tutelage of head of keyboard Ji Liu.
